There are an estimated
300,000 child soldiers in the world- some abducted, illegally recruited, and volunteering to avenge their family. These children, some as young as seven or eight, are used as minesweepers, sex slavers, porters, human shields, extra judicial executors, and other dehumanizing tasks. These children are often drugged and forced to rape or witness the rape of families and destroy and ransack villages.
Well, the US Congress is finally able to hear the cries of the over 300,000 child soldiers dehumanized throughout the world.
The
Child Soldier Prevention Act 2007 was bi-partisanly introduced into the Senate at the end of April, and currently has 15 cosponsors. This is very important legislation, and marks one of the first times the pressing issue of child soldiers is addressed in Congress.
The act cuts off US military funding, training, and arms supplies to governments which enlist child soldiers. There are currently ten countries who's government is known to recruit child soldiers: Afghanistan, Burundi, Chad, Colombia, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sri Lanka, Sudan, and Uganda. The US provides military assistance to nine of these countries. While this bill will end US aide to these countries, they will be able to regain their US aide after they have made visible efforts to disarm, demobilize, and reintegrate child soldiers.

This is a monumental bill.
Do not let taxpayer money be spent on arming or training children! This bill is an effective means of alleviating the use of child soldiers, providing a realistic incentive for countries to demobilize children in their forces for the purpose of bettering their forces.
You can make a difference. Do not sit idle and let this important opportunity pass you by. Stand up for freedom and honor, and represent these children!
